『rachitic』はニューラテン語／医学ラテン語の『rachitis』に由来し、それはギリシャ語『rhachis（背骨・脊柱）』に由来する。
『rachitic』はギリシャ語『rhachis』→ 医学ラテン語『rachitis（脊柱／骨の病）』→ 英語形容詞『rachitic』という流れで変化した。
