語源
「prevenient」はラテン語の「praevenire」から由来し、「prae-」は「前」を、「venire」は「来る」を意味した。
「praevenire」は古フランス語の「prevenir」を経て中英語（例：「prevenen」「prevenient」）となり、最終的に現代英語の「prevenient」になった。
当初は「先に来る（来ること）」という意味だったが、時を経て「前に来る・先行する」という現在の意味や、神学的には「（恩寵などが）先立って働き人を準備する」という意味に発展した。
