語源
「post-」はラテン語の 'post'（「後」）からの接頭辞で、「human」はラテン語 'humanus'（『人間』に関する）に由来する語が結合してできている。
「post-」は古英語・中英語以来「後」の意味の接頭辞として使われてきた。「human」はラテン語 'humanus' が古フランス語・中英語を経て英語になった。合成語『post-human（posthuman）』は20世紀に生まれ、20世紀後半〜21世紀にかけて哲学や技術の議論で一般化した。
