語源
『excommunicate』は中世ラテン語の『excommunicare』に由来し、接頭辞『ex-』は「外へ」、『communicare』は「共有する・共にする」を意味した。
『excommunicate』は中世ラテン語『excommunicare』から教会語として中英語に入り、やがて現代英語の『excommunicate』になった。
