語源
「doodlebug」は英語に由来し、語の合成『doodle』と『bug』から成る。『doodle』は元々落書きや間抜けを意味し、『bug』（中英語の'bugge'）は「虫」や「恐れを引き起こすもの」を意味した。
『doodlebug』は当初アリジゴクの幼虫に対して使われ、その小さな穴を作る様子や「虫」のような外見から名付けられた。20世紀にはそのブンブンという音や虫のような挙動からV-1飛行爆弾にも俗称として用いられるようになった。
当初は「アリジゴクの幼虫」を指したが、時間とともに「V-1の飛行爆弾」を含む意味や、子どもやペットへの愛称的な用法へ広がった。
