語源
「diaspore」はギリシャ語の「διασπορά（diasporá）」に由来し、接頭辞「διά（dia-）」は「離れて」を意味し、語根「σπείρειν（speirein）」は「まく・散らす」を意味する。
「diaspore」はネオラテン語・ギリシャ語の「diaspora/diasporā」から科学用語として形成され、19世紀に植物学用語として英語に入った後、鉱物学でもアルミニウム水酸化物鉱物の名称として採用された。
当初は「散らすこと」「散らされたもの」という一般的な意味だったが、次第に植物の散布単位や特定の鉱物名という専門用語になった。
