語源
「declaratory」はラテン語（後期ラテン語）の語『declaratorius』に由来し、接頭辞' de-'は「完全に／〜から」、'clarare'は「明らかにする」を意味した。
『declaratorius』は古フランス語や中英語の『declaratorie』などを経て、中英語で使われ、最終的に現代英語の「declaratory」になった。
当初は「明らかにするための、宣言するための」という意味で、時とともにその意味を保ちつつ、法的文脈で「正式な表明・宣言（判決）」を指すことが増えた。
