「construction」はラテン語の「constructio」に由来し、「con-」は「一緒に」、「struere」は「積み上げる、建てる」を意味しました。

「constructio」は古フランス語の「construction」に変わり、中英語を経て現代英語の「construction」になりました。

最初は「建設の行為」を意味し、この意味は現代でもほぼ同じです。
