語源
「compliancy」は古フランス語とラテン語の語根に由来する。古フランス語の'compliance'（同意・好意）に関連し、ラテン語の'complacēre'は'一緒に（com-）'と'好む（placēre）'の意味を持つ。
中英語での'compliance'の形から発展し、近代英語で状態を表す名詞として'compliancy'が形成された。
もともとは「（人を）喜ばせる／同意する」という意味に関連していたが、次第に「（要求・規則に）従うこと／順応すること」という現在の意味に変化した。
