語源
「committee」はフランス語の「comité」に由来し、さらにラテン語の 'committere'（com-「一緒に」+ mittere「送る／置く」）に遡る。信託・委ねるという意味に由来する。
「committee」は古フランス語の 'comité' や中世フランス語の形から変化し、近代英語の 'committe(e)' を経て現代英語の 'committee' になった。
当初は「委ねる行為」や「委ねられたもの」を指していたが、次第に「任務を委ねられた人々の集まり」という現在の意味に発展した。
