語源
「cephalon」はギリシャ語の語「kephalē」（κεφαλή）に由来し、「kephal-」は「頭」を意味した。
「cephalon」はギリシャ語「kephalē」から借用されたニューラテン語「cephalon」を経て、動物学・解剖学の専門用語として現代英語に入った。
当初はギリシャ語の文字通りの「頭」を意味したが、時と共にその核心的意味は保たれつつ、節足動物の特定の頭節を指す専門用語や企業名としての用法へと専門化した。
