語源
「bract」はラテン語の「bractea」に由来し、元は「薄い金属の板」や「薄い葉状の層」を意味していた。
ラテン語の「bractea」は中世ラテン語・古仏語（例: bractee）を経て中英語の「bracte」となり、最終的に現代英語の「bract」になった。
当初は「薄い板（金属板）」を意味していたが、次第に「薄い葉状のもの」を指すようになり、最終的に植物学上の「花や花序に付随する葉状構造」という意味に発展した。
