不定形の塊
語源
「blob」は近代ではコンピュータ用語として英語で『BLOB（Binary Large Object）』という頭字語で使われ、大きなバイナリデータを指すようになった。
「blob」は1958年のアメリカ映画『The Blob』によって不定形で襲いかかる塊というイメージが広まり、それ以前から英語でしずくや塊を表す語として存在していた。
当初はしずくや小さな塊を表すオノマトペ的な語だったが、次第に不定形の塊全般を指すようになり、後にコンピュータ用語としての意味も生まれた。
