語源情報
『bantu』はバントゥ諸語（最終的には原バントゥ語）に由来し、元の語『bantu』は接頭辞『ba-』が「人々（複数）」、語根『-ntu』が「人・人間」を意味した。
歴史的変遷
『bantu』は19世紀後半に言語学・人類学の研究（例：ヴィルヘルム・ブリーク）を通じて英語に入った。英語では複数形として『Bantus』が用いられるようになった。
意味の変化
