語源
「Babylon」はアッカド語の語『Bāb-ilim』（または『Bāb-ilu』）に由来し、『bāb』は「門」を、『ilim/ilu』は「神」を意味しました（文字どおり「神の門」）。
『Babylon』はギリシャ語の「Babylṓn」、ラテン語の「Babylon」を経て、古英語・中英語の形を通り現代英語の「Babylon」になりました。
