語源
「axonometry」はフランス語の「axonométrie」に由来し、『axon-』（ギリシャ語『axōn』）は「軸」、『-metry』（ギリシャ語『metron』）は「測ること」を意味した。
「axonometry」はフランス語の「axonométrie」から変化し、19世紀に技術用語として近代英語の 'axonometry' になった。
当初は「軸の測定」を意味していたが、次第に「軸に基づく平行投影によって3次元を2次元で表す方法」という現在の意味に変化した。
