語源
『auxochrome』は新ラテン語／ギリシャ語由来の複合語で、接頭辞『auxo-』はギリシャ語『auxein』（増す）に由来し、『chroma』（色）を意味する。
『auxochrome』は科学（化学）の用語として造られ、新ラテン語的な形でギリシャ語要素を結合して生じ、現代英語の『auxochrome』となって発色を変える置換基を表す語として定着した。
