語源
『autotoxemia』はニューラテン語／ギリシャ語要素に由来する：ギリシャ語の『auto-』は「自己」、『toxēma』（『toxikon』より）は「毒」や「中毒」を意味し、医学ラテン語で結合され『autotoxemia』となった。
『autotoxemia』は19世紀後半の医学用語として造られ、ニューラテン語の『autotoxemia』（ギリシャ語『autos』＝「自己」＋『toxēma』＝「中毒」）からそのまま英語医学文献に入り定着した。
