語源
「autocue」は英語での造語で、プロンプティング機器の商標名として作られた。接頭辞の「auto-」（ギリシャ語 'autos'＝「自己」）と劇場用語の「cue」（合図）を結合している。
「autocue」は20世紀中ごろにAutocue社の商標として始まり、イギリス英語では次第に任意のテレプロンプターを指す一般用語になった。
