語源
'auricularian'はラテン語の語 'auricula' に由来し、そこでの 'auris' は「耳」を意味した。
'auricularian'はラテン語後期の形容詞 'auricularis'（心耳・耳に関する）から中英語の 'auricular' を経て、接尾辞 '-ian' を付けて英語形 'auricularian' になった。
当初は「耳（心耳）に関する」を意味したが、次第にキクラゲ属（耳形の菌）を示す菌学的用法にも使われるようになった。
