語源
「attorn」はアングロ・フランス語／古フランス語の'atorner'（〜に向ける・割り当てる）に由来し、接頭辞a-（〜へ）と'torner'（回す）から形成された。
'atorner'（古フランス語）が中英語の'attournen'／'attournen'を経て現代英語の'attorn'になった。
当初は「（方向を）転じる」「割り当てる」という意味だったが、次第に法的用法に限定され「権利を譲渡する」「新しい家主を承認する」という意味になった。
