語源
「atropin」（および英語の関連語「atropine」）は近代ラテン語の「Atropina」に由来し、最終的には植物の属名「Atropa」から来ている。属名はギリシャ神話の運命の女神「アトロポス（Atropos）」にちなんでいる。
ギリシャ語の「Atropos」がニューラテン語・近代ラテン語で植物属名「Atropa」となり、そこからニューラテン語・近代ラテン語の「Atropina」、さらにフランス語・英語の化学名「atropine」（古い英語変種「atropin」）へと発展し、科学・医療用語として用いられるようになった。
