語源
「athematic」はギリシャ語由来で、否定の接頭辞「a-」（「～でない」「～がない」）と名詞「thema」（ギリシャ語「θέμα」、『置かれたもの』『主題』）から成る。
ギリシャ語の「thema」はラテン語（後期ラテン語／中世ラテン語）の「thema」「thematicus」を経て英語の「thematic」となり、現代英語で接頭辞「a-」が付されて「athematic」が形成された。
