語源
「asterism」は新ラテン語の「asterismus」、最終的にはギリシャ語の「asterismos」から来ており、「aster-」は「星」を意味した。
「asterism」はギリシャ語の「asterismos」から新ラテン語の「asterismus」に変化し、現代英語の「asterism」となった。
当初は「星の群れや星の印」を意味していたが、やがて活字記号「⁂」を指す意味も持つようになり、天文学的な意味は保持された。
