語源
「aspheric」は、否定を表す接頭辞「a-」と「spheric」（'sphere'に由来、ギリシャ語の'sphaira'は「球」）から成る語である。
ギリシャ語'sphaira' → ラテン語'sphaera' → 英語'sphere' → 形容詞要素'spheric'に否定の接頭辞'a-'が結び付いて、特に技術・光学分野で現代語の『aspheric』が生まれた。
