語源
「ashanti」はアカン語（トゥイ語）の語『Asante』（綴りはしばしば『Ashanti』）に由来し、この地域の人々が用いる現地語から取られている。
『ashanti』はトゥイ語の『Asante』から来ており、18〜19世紀のヨーロッパの商人や植民地関係者との接触を通じて英語に取り入れられ、英語では『Ashanti』の形が定着した。
