語源
「arthrotropic」はギリシャ語の要素「arthron」と「tropos」に由来し、「arthron」は「関節」を、「tropos」は「向き・回転」を意味した。
「arthrotropic」は新ラテン語や近代の造語を介して医学・生物学の用語として19〜20世紀に形成され、専門領域での用語として定着した。
当初は「関節へ向かう（回る）」という文字どおりの複合語だったが、現在では「関節を好む・優先的に影響を与える（親和性がある）」という専門的な意味で用いられるようになった。
