「arithmological」はギリシャ語の「arithmos」に由来し、「arithmos」は「数」を意味しました。

「arithmos」はラテン語の「arithmologia」に変化し、最終的に現代英語の「arithmological」になりました。

最初は「数に関する」を意味し、この意味は現代でもほぼ同じです。
