語源
「areolation」はラテン語の「areola」（「area」の小辞形）に由来する。ラテン語の「area」は「開けた場所・平らな地面」を意味し、接尾辞「-ola」は小さいことを示す。
英語では「areola」がラテン語から科学語として導入され、小さな一定の区画を指す語として用いられた後、接尾辞「-ation」を付けて「areolation」が形成され、区画の形成過程や網目状の配列を表す語となった。
