語源
『archaeostomata』はギリシャ語に由来し、具体的には 'archaios' と 'stoma' から来ている。'archaios' は「古い／古代の」、'stoma' は「口」を意味する。
『archaeostomata』は近代科学ラテン語でギリシャ語の語根 'archaios' + 'stoma' を結合して作られ、19〜20世紀の分類学文献でフルカ類の群名として定着した。
当初は文字どおり「古い口」を意味していたが、次第に生物の分類群（フルカ類の一群）を指す語になった。
