語源
「Arcella」は新ラテン語／ラテン語に由来し、特にラテン語の語 'arcella'（'arca' の小形）から来ており、'arca' は「箱・胸箱」を意味する。
『Arcella』はラテン語の小形から新ラテン語（分類学ラテン語）で作られ、殻が小さな囲まれた構造に見えることから有殻アメーバの属名として採用された。
もともとは「小さな箱」を意味したが、時とともに有殻アメーバ属の学名としての用法に変化し、一般物のイメージから生物分類名へと移行した。
