語源
「Arabia」はラテン語の『Arabia』に由来し、ギリシャ語の『Arabía』から来ており、最終的にはセム語系の語根『ʿ-r-b』に由来する。この語根は『西』や『砂漠』を意味した。
『Arabía』（ギリシャ語）から『Arabia』（ラテン語）へ変化し、中世英語と近代英語にほとんど変化せずに取り入れられ、アラブ人の土地を指す意味を保持した。
