語源
『apogamous』はニューラテン語（学術ラテン語）を経てギリシャ語『apogamos』に由来し、接頭辞『apo-』は「離れて、〜から」と、語根『gamos』は「結婚（結合）」を意味した。
『apogamous』はギリシャ語由来のラテン語形（apogamyなど）を経て英語の形容詞『apogamous』として入り、主に生物学で用いられるようになった。
元来は「結婚（結合）を欠く」という文字どおりの意味だったが、次第に「受精を伴わない生殖」を指す生物学用語として定着した。
