語源
「apochromatism」は現代の学術造語で、ギリシャ語の接頭辞「apo-」（「～から離れて」）と「chroma」（「色」）に名詞化接尾辞「-ism」が付いた語に由来します。
19世紀の光学用語として形容詞「apochromatic」や名詞「apochromat」が使われ、それに基づいて性質を表す名詞「apochromatism」が後に成立しました。
当初は「色から離れている（色の影響がない）」という意味合いでしたが、やがて「色収差を補正する性質・状態」を指す技術的用語になりました。
