「antiworld」はギリシャ語と古英語に由来し、接頭辞「anti-」はギリシャ語の「anti」（反対、対立）に由来し、『world』は古英語の「weoruld」（時代・人間の存在）に由来する。
「anti-」はギリシャ語からラテン語を経て中古英語・近代英語に取り入れられた結合形であり、『world』は古英語「weoruld」から中英語を経て現代英語の「world」になった。『antiworld』はこれらの要素を組み合わせた近代の造語である。
