語源
'antithenar'は接頭辞'anti-'（ギリシャ語の'anti-'：反対）と'thenar'（ギリシャ語の'thenar'：手の（柔らかい）部分）を組み合わせて作られた語である。
'antithenar'は近代医学英語で'thenar'の前に'anti-'を付けて作られた。'thenar'はギリシャ語から医学ラテン語・英語に入って母指球（母指側の肉厚な隆起）を指すようになり、'antithenar'はその反対の隆起を指す語として用いられるようになった。
