語源
「antifogging」は近代英語の合成語で、ギリシャ語の接頭辞「anti-」（反対・対抗）と「fog」（視界を悪くする浮遊水滴を指す英語）から成る。
「anti-」はギリシャ語の 'anti-'（反対を意味）に由来し、「fog」は中英語（中英語の 'fogge' など）で発展し、くもり止めの被膜やスプレーの発展とともに20世紀に「antifogging」という合成語が生まれた。
元来は「くもりに対する・くもりを防ぐ」という意味で作られ、現代でも同様に「くもりを防止・軽減する」という意味で使われている。
