語源
「antacid」は語幹としてギリシャ語の接頭辞 'anti-'（〜に対して）とラテン語の 'acidus'（酸、すっぱい）から成る語に由来します。
19世紀後半に 'anti-' と 'acid' を組み合わせて造られ、酸に対抗する物質を指す語として定着しました。正書法は 'antacid' が標準ですが 'antiacid' のような変種も見られます。
