「anti-lapsarian」は現代英語に由来し、ギリシャ語の接頭辞「anti-（反対）」と、最終的にはラテン語の「lapsus（落ちる・堕落したこと）」に由来する「lapsarian」を結合してできた語。'lapsus'は「落下・堕落」を意味した。
