語源
「anthocerote」は新ラテン語に由来し、具体的には『Anthoceros（アンソセロス）』や群名『Anthocerotae』に由来する。ギリシャ語の『anthos』は「花」を、『keras/keros』は「角」を意味した。
『anthocerote』はギリシャ語の学名『Anthoceros』から新ラテン語の『Anthocerotae』へ変化し、その後英語で『anthocerote』として採用された。
当初は「花のような（花）＋角」の複合的なイメージ（角状の胞子体を指す）を意味していたが、時を経て「角苔類の植物（コケ植物）」を指す専門用語になった。
