語源
「anteromarginal」は近代の学術的な造語で、ラテン語由来の結合形「antero-」（'anterior'、語源はラテン語の'ante'「前」）と「marginal」（ラテン語'margo'「縁、端」）を組み合わせている。
「antero-」はラテン語'anterior'（'ante'の比較級）を経て中世〜近世の解剖学ラテン語に用いられ、「marginal」は古仏語・ラテン語（'marginalis'〈'margo'〉）から来ている。これらが現代の英語学術語として結合して「anteromarginal」となった。
元々は文字通り「前（の）＋縁」を意味したが、時間とともに解剖学・分類学の記述で前縁に位置することを示す専門的形容詞として用いられるようになった。
