語源
「annulus」はラテン語の語『annulus』に由来し、語幹'ann-'は「輪」を、縮小辞'-ulus'は「小さい」を意味しました。
『annulus』（「小さな輪」を意味するラテン語の縮小形）から変化し、近代ラテン語／中世ラテン語を経て数学・解剖学・植物学などの専門用語として英語に入ってきました。
