「anemometrographic」はギリシャ語の「anemos（風）」「metron（測定）」「graphikos（記録）」に由来する。

「anemometrographic」は英語で「anemometer（風速計）」と「-graphic（記録の）」を組み合わせて作られ、現代英語の「anemometrographic」になった。

もともとは「風の測定記録に関する」という意味で、現代でもこの意味が保たれている。
