語源
「Remonstrantism」はラテン語とオランダ語に由来します。ラテン語の 'remonstrant-'（動詞 'remonstrare' の現在分詞、『示す・指摘する・抗議する』を意味）と、1610年の『Remonstrance』を提出した支持者たちを指すオランダ語 'Remonstranten' に由来します。
『Remonstrantism』は、オランダ語の 'Remonstranten'（Remonstranceを提出した人々）を指す語として発展しました。ラテン語 'remonstrare' は古フランス語の 'remonstrer' を経て英語や中世オランダ語に入り、17せいき初めにオランダの運動名が英語へ取り入れられ、やがて 'Remonstrantism' が運動・教義を指す語となりました。
