語源
「Mennonites」はオランダ語の『Mennoniet』に由来し、16せいきの再洗礼派指導者メンノ・シモンスの名にちなむ。'Menno'は人名である。
『Mennoniet』はドイツ語の『Mennonit』などを経て英語の『Mennonite』（複数形は『Mennonites』）として取り入れられた。
当初は「メンノ・シモンスの追随者」を意味したが、次第に宗教集団やその共同体・慣習を指す語となった。
