語源
「Ipheion」は近代ラテン語（植物学ラテン語）に由来し、ギリシャ語形の「Ἰφεῖον（Iphēion）」に由来する。ただし古典ギリシャ語での語源的な意味は不明である。
「Ipheion」は19世紀ごろに植物学上の属名として定められ、ギリシャ語形「Ἰφεῖον」から採られた。以後植物学文献で用いられ、一部の種は「Tristagma」など別属に再分類されることがある。
もともとは語源的に不明確なギリシャ語の語形であったが、現代ではこの球根植物群の学名として定着している。
