語源
「Fujianese」は中国語の地名「福建（ふけん）」に由来し、英語の接尾辞「-ese」を付けて「～に関する／～出身の」を表す語が作られたものです。
「Fujian」は以前の英語表記で「Fukien」として入ってきており、かつては「Fukienese」のような形が使われた。ピンインの普及により現代英語では「Fujian」「Fujianese」が一般的になりました。
元は地名そのものを指していたが、やがて「福建出身の人」「福建の方言」「福建に関する（形容詞）」という意味合いで使われるようになった。
