語源
『Arum』はラテン語の単語『arum』に由来し、さらにギリシャ語の『aron』（意味: アルムの植物）に由来する。
『aron』（ギリシャ語）からラテン語の『arum』へ変化し、中世ラテン語の植物学用語として用いられ、現代英語の植物名『Arum』になった。
当初は植物そのもの（『arum』）を指していたが、現在でも主に属名としての植物学用語としての意味が保たれており、類似のサトイモ科植物の通称として使われることもある。
