語源
「Arctocebus」は古代ギリシャ語に由来し、要素の'arktos'は「熊」、'kebos'は「猿（長い尾を持つ猿）」を意味する。
「Arctocebus」は19世紀の分類学でこれらギリシャ語の語根から近代学名として作られ、分類文献で属名として採用された。
当初は「熊のような猿」を意味する造語だったが、現在では特にアングワンティボ属を指す学名として用いられている。
