語源
「Apache」はスペイン語の単語「apache」に由来し、元はズニ語（あるいは近縁のプエブロ諸語）の「apachu」など「敵」を意味する語から借用されたと考えられる。
スペイン語話者が南西部の諸部族を指して用い、それが19世紀に英語の『Apache』として取り入れられた。
当初は「敵」を意味していたが、やがてアパッチ族の民族名として定着し、さらにヘリコプター名など他の用法にも拡張された。
